Manila Trip

We are now back home from a four night stay in Manila. We went to the big city to attend the Calvary Bible Institute Alumni Reunion, and also to spend time with the Calvary missionary families living and working in Manila. We stayed in the Holiday Inn in the Galleria Mall, a very nice hotel in a very nice part of town. Faithy is convinced that Manila is a part of America, and she kept talking about going back to Iloilo as going back to the Philippines. We enjoyed the comforts of hot showers and air conditioning (our hotel even had carpeting).

Manila is VERY Westernized, with huge shopping malls, skyscrapers, and many of the shops and restaurants that we miss from the States. I got Starbucks every day of our visit, sometimes more than once a day, and we even got treated to Outback Steakhouse and Chili's. Best of all we got to spend quality time with the Calvary missionaries in Manila, enjoying a meal together and fellowshipping.

Manila is too big. Yes, it has many of the comforts of America that we miss, but it is a huge city with almost twenty million people. I like our little town of Iloilo, just half a million people, just fine. It is good to be home. Manila is nice for a visit, but Iloilo is home.

Changing Lives Who Will Change Nations

You may recall we have been directing missionary internships for 15 years. We recently completed the first ever Go To Nations (GTN) Timothy Internship Program in the United States (Jacksonville, FL). Five new missionaries were equipped and empowered, they have been filled up and are ready to be sent out!

Generations

Send More Workers, Lord! Go To Nations has a proven equipping track that has been empowering new missionaries to go to the nations (see what I did there?) since the 1980's. Dave and I have been a part of serving with the Equipping Division for the past 15 years.

Balaan Bukid, Guimaras

This being Maundy Thursday we decided to join the pilgrims here in Iloilo and visit the Balaan Bukid on the nearby island of Guimaras. The hike details the stations of the cross, with the culmination of large cross on the highest point on the island. Afterwards we swam at the nearby Alubihod Beach. It was a perfect day to hike to the cross and then also to enjoy some sun and surf.
