Week One Complete

While the internship began on the 13th of January, officially week one ended today. It has been a very full week and a half, with classes in the morning, and the interns doing language learning in the afternoons. Honestly, I have not been this busy in a long time. And you never feel qualified for this kind of thing. I feel a huge sense of responsibility with Calvary International trusting us with this project, and also Christ for the Nations Institute trusting us with their students. Thankfully this is a team effort. The entire Calvary team is taking on this internship, and we are blessed to have Calvary's Vice-President of Field Ministries, Tim (and later his wife, Nancy) Lovelace here showing us how to do this.

The team of interns are doing great. I am impressed that they are always on time for classes and events. They have truly unified into a solid team. I fully expect this to be a life-changing ten weeks--myself being the one who will change the most.

Departing

Leaping off the Leadership Development post, I have some somewhat sad news. Chris and the kids will be leaving for the States this Saturday. They leave for Manila on Friday, and then fly onward to the States on Saturday, arriving in Baltimore around midnight (Maryland time) Saturday evening. Why is this sad? My responsibilities with the internship require me to say in Iloilo until the internship is completed. I will be returning to the States March 23. We have never been apart as a family for so long. Honestly I am very much not looking forward to being away from my family. I am not looking at this as a "break" from my kids so I can finally do some "real ministry." I am willing to fulfill my responsibilities here in Iloilo, especially as it involves training future full-time missionaries. However, I am not at all looking forward to being apart from my most favorite people in the world. The reason why Chris needs to leave for the States at this time is beca...

Little Church Big Faith

On Sunday we attend a house church affiliated with Full Gospel Center Church. The interns ministered in music, children's ministry, testimonies, and one intern, Natalie, preached. This is an amazing church. The church was small, hot, and full of passionate believers. The boy in the picture above (second row, wearing a blue t-shirt) is named John-John. He is ten years old and is autistic. One day John-John wandered from home and went to the nearby beach. Tragically he ended up in the water and drowned. Two hours later the house church pastor, Pastor Jules, found John-John face down in the water. He grabbed the boy from the sea, took his hands and declared "In Jesus name, he can't go yet Lord." In the taxi on the way to the hospital he kept praying over the child. When they arrived at a local hospital John-John was declared dead. They left his lifeless body for the family to claim. Meanwhile the small house church was praying and praying. Suddenly the doctors in the hos...
